Hi. I wasn't sure in what section should I post my threat.. Im into saltwater hobby for 6 years. I have 125 mixed reef ,fish tank. I consider myself successful refer..;). I love my reef tank. But for some time Im thinking that there is a lot of beautiful fish that I really like but can't have them for a safety of my reef. So I got a crazy idea to do another set up fish with live rock only.::) The problem is all my hobby life I was reef guy. Im little confused how to set up fish only tank. It will be 125 reef ready tank. I know I need UV sterilizer and sump with bio balls, right. Please give me some pointers. I set up my reef by myself. It is 125 reef ready with MH and T5 light. Water Blaster return pump, 2 WP 40, fuge, Octopus skimmer, chiller. I know some of this staff I don't need in my new tank. Thanks for advice.

That is an awesome reef. Plenty of coraline. Fish only should be no problem for you. The only thing I would mention is the use of bio balls. I used them for years successfully in my fish only tanks, but if they become clogged the can be nitrate factories. Live rock can replace the balls.

Please send pics when you set up your new tank. If it looks like you reef I'm sure it will be spectacular.

That is an awesome looking reef tank! I don't think you need the bioballs or UV. If you have a sump, fuge, and live rock, you should be able to keep fish, no problem.

Yes, need to gather some information. People saying that UV will help in case of Ich. Or I should run tank on lower salinity.I know a guy who run tank with copper to prevent ich...

you can run on lower salinity - I kept my fish only tank at 1.020 to 1.021. I think that the UV helping with ich may be an urban legend. You just need to keep your fish healthy and quarantine new fish before adding and you should be ok in terms of keeping ich at bay.

Actually, when sized properly and with proper flow rate, UV can be an effective method to control/reduce Ich. I actually would recommend one on a FOWLR. But your other points are good. You can keep the salinity lower, QT all fish, run a 'fuge instead of bioballs, etc.

And beautiful reef tank BTW! I love your Powder Brown :)
