ive recently joined 3 reef and this wil be my seccond thread.

My new possible set up plans (30 gallon)are a pair of large clowns, either maroon or hopefully ocellaris, a dwarf fuzzy lionfish, a wartskin angler, a flame angel, and finally a few simple moderate to high light corals like frogspawn, montipora, polyps, leather, hammer, torch etc...
what elso could go in the described tank.
please critique my setup and tell me how you would go about choosing filtration(canister, hang on back, or maybe sump but that gets a bit pricy). ive never done saltwater but have had about 3 years of freshwater expierence.

heres a vid to show a simiilar setup from another marine aquarist.
haha thats funny... the font was in wwhite !!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtPhnUp0PYg

I would stay away from canister filters just a PITA. But for 30g that sounds like ALOT of fish. Dont get me wrong i love lions. Dwarf Zebra was my first fish. but they are messy as hell. and granted they COULD live in a 30g they really need more room. they do perch alot but want the freedom to float about. i think you could get away with a pair of clowns and maybe one other small guy. maybe a goby.

As far as filtration, you can never go wrong with a sump. lets you hide all of your equipment. and load up on your water treating ability. Purigen with Chemipure elite. and even a refug.

They say a skimmer isnt needed in a biocube 29 with a fuge full of cheeto. a media rack with purigen and chemipure elite. but. if it pulls out anything at all. it was worth it IMO. :-/

    Just my two cents.

Too much fish. And if thats coming from me, its alot! I would go with Small clowns and Nano fish.

IMO find a 55g drilled tank used on craigslist. The bigger the tank the better as a beginner. The smaller the tank the harder it is.

    Welcome Harrison.
I'll throw out my 2 cents.
    1. Lights. Depending on what you have for lights, will ultimately depend on what corals you can sustain.
    2. Tank. 30 gal isn't too big. A pair of clown an 2 other smaller fish would be the happiest in this environment.
    3. Fish. The lionfish and flame angel are awesome. I think we ALL really, really want them. ...but we don't have them. They're pretty low on the compatible level for a reef. Not saying it can't be done, but chances are pretty slim. Some flame angels will eat corals, some won't... Lionfish are typically in a predator tank unless it's a very, very large tank.
    4. Husbandry. With the setup you listed, it really doesn't seem feasible for a newbie without a sump and class A husbandry for your system... not putting you down or saying it can't be done but it's a bit much for a 30 gal.

So depending on what kind of lights you have, you may want to start off with lots of good rock and a nice clown fish and go from there.
It's all about the bio-load of the tank. There is a learning curve involved (ie, lots of reading and experience). Don't expect to get into a formula 1 car and drive it like a pro because you can drive the heck out of a Camry...
    Again, just my thoughts.

    Good luck guy.
