I'm happy to see that people won't be eating Twinkies anymore! I mean in all honesty, do we really need them? All they're doing is making people fatter.

I feel sorry for the workers, though :(

Apparently it's a good thing 18,500 people are directly going to be out of work. Many, many others will be now hurt too: the paper companies that make the wrappers, the little cardboard inserts, the packaging. The trucking industry that services the fleet, the local areas when employees eat, shop for their goods and live so on and so on.

I mean hey, it's not like twinkies and bakery treats are "a good thing" right???

Lets regulate the viable responsible, profitable business like this to get up and walk away from the table while propping up businesses that destroyed, and continue do destroy themselves... :: cough auto industry bail out cough cough::

Other than a short period when they came out with the Banana Twinkie, I was a kid the last time I ate the normal ones, I won't miss them. but I sure did like those Banana ones.

Don't rule out the end of the world quite yet, 2112

It not only affects the hostess products, but recently went to the store to buy some bread. Normally get either Wonder or the store brand. Well, as you know wonder is out of the market, and the store brands are made by Wonder, so those are out. The remainder of the bread companies raised their prices quite a bit already because, well they can!

Hostess/wonder had a plant in st louis that was closed and several hundred people lost their jobs. Like so many other cities, St Louis has been hit super hard with plant closures, IE Chryslar, Ford, Hostess, downsizing of GM and many others. And of course as a result, other companies in the area have started downsizing and laying off so our unemployment rate is super high here. This is the real tragedy of the situation.

I'm not saying that I don't feel bad about the workers. I do. I really do. I just dont like how unhealthy the food was.

Junk food/comfort food in moderation is my take! I ,like a nice tasty twinkie, oreo cookies, I love the chocolate hostess cupcakes with the cream inside. I feel very bad for the workers and like others have said, a business like this going under affects so many others as well.......
