    I agree with his statement.

I went to private Catholic school from 1st grade to 8th grade in New York. I finished 9th through 12th grade in Miami public schools and I will agree that in most cases, private school's educational program is better than public. But I will tell one thing thou, all the delinquents, future ho's of america, graffiti artists and bull sh** artists politicians where all there with me. In fact, thats where I learned how to do graffiti on trains, buses and walls.

With my situation, the area I live in calls for private schools if you want a good education. I live in Hamilton County Tennessee (Chattanooga area), and the public schools here are TERRIBLE. Here we have as many private schools as public, and most private school kids have a much better education here. However, up towards Nashville in northern Tennessee, there are public schools that have education programs to rival private schools. I have several friends that attend different schools up there, and some of the things they learn and do are on par with the private schools in my area.

So it's essentially a matter of where you live. If the public school system around you has a great education program and is a good school, then rock on. You don't have to pay extra for a good education. :)

What is so great about private education. Well for one, they still teach kids to be competative. They don't teach all of the pc nonsense. I kinda like my daughters class having 17 kids in it. I like the tests scores of private schools versus public. I like the fact that my kids teachers are held to a standard and are paid and promoted based on merit rather than seniority. I like the fact that my kids teachers aren't standing in a picketline asking for more money when my states teachers are among the highest paid in the nation and education is one of the worst. I like the fact that they are allowed to say God in schoo. I like the fact that they still hold their hands over their hearts when Pledging the Flag. When tax dollars around here start going to the kids' education rather than to the administrators, I'll think more about sending my kid to a public school.

that was well funny - but on a more serious note, i doubt there is anything actually wrong with America's education system, just the pupils in it.....

I guess it is just where you live then. Where I live public school teachers get paid more than private school teachers, and the students get higher test scores. Even the ratio of budget per student is higher at public schools in my county.

It does. It depends on the school district. My Dad was a Biology teacher at high school level. In that school, the funding was such that he was able to teach two courses that had college written all over them. Bio-Medical Problems and Embryo Genetics. Great classes.

And school teachers aren't paid squat. They need more money in their pockets period. If they need to strike, believe you me, they are not compensated for not working. It hits the pocket book and some go belly up.

When I graduated pharmacy school I felt guilty. My beginning pay back in '91 was just a few thousand over my Dad's pay. And he had been teaching since 1965 and had a Masters to boot.

There are instances where private is better than public, but it definitely isn't everywhere. We thought about sending the kids to private school, but went against the idea in lieu of putting that money away for their college funds.

Here in oregon, the average dollar to student ratio is 10,000 dollars/student/year. The money doesn't go to the teachers here though. It goes to some of the crazy programs they offer and not to the teachers. If the average classroom here has 30 students, that's 300,000 per year for that classroom. Lets say this is a really small school and it has 300 students, that's 3 million dollars per year going into that school. Why aren't the teachers getting paid. Electricity???? even if this was 10,000 per month that still leaves...... do you get my drift??? When we got the last test results, private school students scored around 10 percent higher on average. If I can find it, I'll post exact numbers.
