I bought a new heater for my 6 gal. last month. i can't remember the brand, but it said for up to 6 gal. I also bought a new one for my 12 gal. It is a better brand than I usually buy.

My 12 is doing great, but my 6 gal is barely 75. I have it set for 79. I'm not sure if it's the heater, or if it's because the room the tank is in is kept cold, around 60.

Should I turn the heater up until I can achive 79?

I would check the brand, but I'm afraid if I just pull the heater out of the water it will crack or something. I usually buy a solid black kind that is submersible. this time a got glass one and you can see a red light down the side of it.

Should I DO anything? Or is 75 not a big deal? I have my clown fish in there, my acan and a toadstool.

I would turn it up slowly, meaning you do not want a large temperature swing. I usually set mine about 77-78 degrees.

I have it set at 79. That's why I don't know what to do. I'm afraid if I turn it up a bit, one of these days it will kick in and be like 83 or something.

Is 75 too low? Will they be o.kay?

75 is not too low but i believe you DO need a better heater. heaters are usually rates to how much water they can bring to 15 degrees over ambient. if you ambient is 60 and the tank is 75 thats the max it can do most likely(unless the temp gauge is off). if the room drops to 57 the tank is going to be 72 and THAT is too low. also an undersized heater it going to be running full blast all the time and it can lead to premature death....just something to think about.

That all makes sense. I will get the same heater I have for my 12 gal. Or maybe I should put the heater for my 12 inmy 6 and get a bigger heater for my 12. I called the LFS and he said he would exchange it if I had the receit, but I don't.:( Maybe he will feel bad and give me a discount on some coral;)

Thanks for the help and advise everyone.

How long have you had them like that? I was thinking of doing that, but afraid I will wake one morning to a hot tank and dead critters.

I will turn it up today though a click or two and see what happens. I can't get out to get a new heater till the weekend.

    thanks
