I just got back from the LFS. They were having a sale. I asked if the yellow coral (it wasn't open) was a yellow toadstool or a yellow fiji. He told me they were the same thing. I told him I didn't think so and he rattled off some scientific name.

I have been doing research on the yellow toadstool because I really want one. Every now and then the yellow fiji will come up. The info on the yellow fijio says it's more dificult to take care of, one of the hardest leathers blah, blah, blah. It also looks a little different all curly and really wavey.

So, are they the same thing? If not, I think I just bought a yellow fiji. I will take a pic when it is done aclimating and I have diped it.

I don't think they are the same...From what I've read and understand is that Fiji toadstools don't seem to have a stalk, and more of just the crown.

My lfs store has "both" if that's right to say...but they both have been sulking and look like death since they've had them, but so did the one i got for free and after about two weeks it's huge and polyps fully extended and probably my favorite coral, and seems to be happily hosting one of my clownfish although the clown bites it. every Fiji stool ive seen looks really folded up and has no stem or stalk and just the crown. But I'm new to the hobby so i could be completely wrong

Here is a pic, it does have a stem, and it has opened a bit, it was so curly the curls almost touched each other. It is also more yellow than the picture, but not a bright as I would like.

the polyps thought about opening up, it got all bumpy, but then they went back in. It could be shedding, or just not happy yet. Either way I think it will be really pretty when it opens.

    Congrats on the coral.

I would go with a toadstool. Ive had a few yellow fijis before, and they were all crowned with no stalk. Some big ones to 7-10". They are pretty hardy except they ship horribly IME.

    Thanks,

It was shedding, the skin is peeling off now. I can't wait till it opens!!
It seems like most people are going with a toadstool, I am sooo glad because I really wanted a yellow toadstool.

I have been looking for them on line, but they were like 30-$50 and then shipping, which is usually 30$.

I got this one at LFS andit was $30!!

My lfs has a yellow toadstool right now and after getting up this morning and seeing your pics I want to go get it ha. Right now I got really big purple toadstool and a baby one about the size of a dime the just popped up. I like the ones with the green polyps but haven't found on around my area yet
