i was just on a product site, which i dont want to link since its a product advertisement . which im not involved with, but it claims that it will allow a 1 day setup for a tank. its a bacteria supplement that supposedly wipes out nitrates right away. just curious if anyones heard of it or used it . i know i more than likely would never go that way, sounds too risky.

Just highly concentrated prime (detoxifier), with dead and useless bacteria spores. Complete gimmick IMHO.

I know some guys locally that order it. A bacterial supplement from Canada and added 10k of coral the next day in a 300 gal tank. Added fish in a week. Everything survived.

It's fine to say the name of a product you're asking about.

With that said, the stabilizer they add to provide surface area for the bacteria and also provide a food source so the bacteria doesn't go dormant will float around in your tank looking horrible before it finally sinks and lands all over your LR and substrate in your brand new tank.

There is a problem inherent with bacteria products. If you put 10 gazillion bacteria in your tank and you only have a bioload that only needs 10 thousand bacteria, the remaining bacteria will simply go dormant and die. Additionally, they need food to live so they add a Carbon source to these products (i.e. sugar). Depending on circumstances this can trigger a bacteria bloom that is too large and you'll have gray water for a week.

thanks inwall. being fairly new still , wasnt sure what could be said in regards to products. didnt want something promoted in regards to the sponsors here. seems like a fine line would be walked with this product. could be way more detrimental than positive.
