I recently set up my tank, which most of you have seen. It is a 29 gallon tank with around 25lbs of rock. A few of the rocks I got came from someone's sump. Two of these were green/brown where algae had once been all over them. I went ahead and put these in my tank. Last night I noticed that all the algea on one of these has came back to life and it is covered. It looks like green hair algae. There is none on any other rock, but these two smaller ones.

I know from my reading that algae blooms are not uncommon in new tanks and the typical advice is to just wait it out. However, if it is covering one rock and none of the others, would it not be best to just take that rock out and not have to worry with it moving throughout the entire tank?

Will get a pic when I get home today. I was just thinking about it here at work. It looks very much like the photos of hair algae I have seen.

It looks almost exactly like this photo I found:

If it's just the one rock, take it out and scrub it really well in some saltwater. Or you could just remove it all together, and see what happens to the rest of your rocks. But like you said, there will be some initial algae in the beginning.

the less GHA you have in your tank the better... you can be guaranteed the spores are there now, but it's a really good idea to remove the algae itself...

you'll also want to make sure your nitrates and phosphates are in check to keep it from growing further...

Thanks for the help guys, I will take it out when I get home. Right now its just that one rock, but it is almost completely covered. I figured there would be spores.

Currently I have a hang on the back marine land 200 filter and a protein skimmer which sticks to the side of the tank. If my phosphates are high what are my options with this setup. I have seen these ... could I put some phosban in one of these and slide it in the extra slot on my filter?
