Yes, while it is unusual for a clown to jump out, when attacked or startled it can happen. I am bummed for you kiddo. I see you have a Yellow Tail in there. As they get older they can become quite cantankerous and perhaps a territorial dispute broke out.

If it's after lights out and I turn a light on in my room or make a sudden movement my clown will freak out..it's possible that something just scared it when it was sleeping and the best way out was up. Sorry to hear this though!

Very sorry to hear that Katie, My only guess would be that something startled in enough to bolt away and jump. I've never heard of a clownfish jumping out of a tank before. Probably not unheard of.... But you get the picture! Sorry for you're loss :(

Thanks guys!! Thats probably what happended. I have a lid for my tank too, I just never used it. Ive tried to get the Yellow tail out soo many time, and fail constantly it sucks. Not like i ever see the fish anyways every time i walk over to the tank it hides anyways. But i know what rock it goes into, so I might just have to take that rock out for a little bit and put it in a tub untill he comes out, Not saying hes the one that did it for sure, but i have seen him pickin on them before. I just hate it, cause i wanted 2 clowns, which is why i had gotten them at the same time, but now i dont wanna introduce anotherone into the tank.

I have a bottle trap just for my yellow tail damsel.. He is a pest and will spend the rest of his days in my sump.. Making a bottle trap is really easy.. the top 1/3 off a water bottle, and then turn it inside out in the other 2/3.. fill with water, put food in there and leave it alone.. works like a charm for mine..

That SUCKS Katie, sorry to hear. Must have been a freak thing, bummer! Only silver lining is that it's not your tank that killed it, that could be more of a pita.
