    LOL, I knew Clapton would get mentioned in this thread. He is not that great of a guitarist. He is/ was a great songwriter, but far from a great guitarist.

    Knopfler is a great guitarist though. He even worked with Weird Al. LOL

    Marc Okubo is one of my favorites. But I dig technical metal. The band he is in is called Veil of Maya.

    Yes, he was. Many don't know what makes a great guitarist. It isn't simply ripping through some cords and riffs. Hendricks was considered a "great" guitarist for his innovation but really he was only a little above average with his over-all playing. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai are all great in their own right. When other musicians claim you are great, well then, they would know. Mark Knopfler, David Gilmore, Eric Clapton , Wes Montgomery, Jeff Beck, B.B. King, Django Reinhardt, Robert Johnson, Duane Allman, Robert Fripp.
    These are chosen by their peers. Of course my favorite is David Gilmore.
