Still nice find...and as far as buying big... I would agree for many reasons, especially if it was a good deal. This is frag ready. I personaly would have bought it.. let it get used to my tank..fragged it up and traded it around for some other things

There's a store in Colorado (Neptunes IIRC) that has like a 100g cube devoted to a single massive colony of hammer. It takes up the entire cube...and they've had to hack it massively back many times. IIRC they've had it for well over 10 years. I know I ahve a pic from last year, I'll try to find it.

I had a conversation with a few folk last night as well that were over looking the specimen. They also thought Frogspawn or Hammer.
I changed the topic title to Hammer/Frogspawn. ;)

As for what I paid, $250.00 PLUS tax. (9%). The piece had actually been at my LFS for quite some time, I just never saw it for some reason. 3 brothers own the place, and one of them did not want to sell it, but he was overruled by the other two! hehe ;D It was very encouraging immediately after I added it to my tank, in 2 hours almost all the heads were opening. As with all my other expensive corals, I just want to maintain these for a LONG period of time. I am a fanatic about water changes and they are done EVERY week (20%) plus suppliments. It also helps that I work from home and my tank is 2 feet away from me at all times! I great stress reliever to say the least. Thanks guys.

I thought I would share that i picked up the same coral last week from a member of my local reef club. He ordered a large colony like yours and it broke up in shipping so he fragged it out. It is no doubt a hammer coral here is mine.

Here is the Hammer/Frogspawn just about fully opened. He seems to be doing extremely well.

definitely a branching hammer coral. Not a wall hammer. But BRANCHING Hammer. You can tell be the elongated tips. Very different from a torch and frogspawn. I have one very similar to that one. Check the pic. Mines only 3 heads though. You must have 20+ 8)
