    what the difference in using a 2 pump skimmer (say 2 x 1500Lhr) to using a 1 pump skimmer (say 3000Lhr) ??

    what style is better

is it more important to have more air going though the skimmer say 2 x pumps or to have less air but a taller skimmer. i am looking at the reef octopus 1300 and 1500 trying to compare which would be better.

    thanks

More water and air run through the skimmer is usually better, but the pumps also have to be well balanced for the skimmer body. Did you find a site that has ratings for them?

They offer a ver good price to performance line. Decent quality and good build and components.

Not too sure what you are asking about. There is a balance, but most makers do not publish water processing rates. So it isn't as easy to say you want one or two times water flow. Most makers I have talked to say one to two times water flow is ideal.... but pretty had to get to one.

Skimmer bodies used to be pretty tall and turbulent to promote contact time. The trend nowadays is to be smaller with bubble plates and turbulence reducing measures such as cones. SRO makes good skimmer with cylinders and cones. SWC does to. T get better you would have to spend a bit more money. ATB and Warner Marine are my favorite. There are more expensive skimmers after that but not better performance.
