dont think anyone i know understands my excitement so thought a post here was in order.
i've never been able to keep any corals yet as the temperature is quite often over 30*C (86F) in summer.
was planning on waiting until i had my big 'real' tank setup before i got a chiller to combat this, but unfortunately that still looks a while off (even longer now).

BUT yesterday i picked up a second hand chiller (Hailea Aqua Medic HL-080CHV) hopefully the perfect size for my nano!!!! i was planning on keeping this as FOWLR because of the cost needed to reef it, but with this massive win it looks like i'll be able to get into some coral keeping alot sooner than expected! ;D

cant post any pics right now but its one of these
Hailea HL-080CHV 150W Aquarium Electronis Mini Chiller [HL-080CHV] - $390.00 : BOYU Australia!, Australia Pumps Wholesaler, Aquarium accessories wholesaler,Pond Pumps Wholesaler

i still need to do something about my 11w pl ligting before i can get anything but with all the options out now that doesnt seem as hard to fix as cooling did.

    thanks guys

anyone have any suggestions on how to light a 12" (bowfront) cube?

i'm thinkin LED because heat was my main issue but not sure how many or what ratio to use? i think i want to mix cool white, royal blue and a couple uv but even the cost of diy stacks up pretty quick :(

i can get a 2 x 24w power compact fairly cheap but i would imagine it would get quite warm still.

also, do i need a skimmer to keep corals if i'm doing regular water changes?

Skimmer will always help with the water quality - I wouldn't run a tank without one.

    Thanks for the advice k3rack.
originally this was going to stay FOWLR with my single occ clown so i felt i could sort of justify going skimmerless, but now i plan on adding corals i guess its more a necessity.

i think i'll still upgrade my lighting first, and is looking like i'll get a boost par30 bulb (2w 3b 60deg). will read through CJs review and see if mentions its limitations and ask about specific coral types (hopefully) before purchasing.

after that i will add a skimmer and am looking to go the aquaC remora nano. seems to rate well as a mid range option, anyone have any experience with these?

thanks again for keeping me on track 3reef
