I would suggest that you go out and purchase a pair of shoulder length Playtex gloves or keep you damm hands out of HER TANK! LOL, what you have is a female that is in the process of becoming a real WOMAN and she will exhibit these tendencies until she lays her first clutch or maybe until she lays several of them you will not know until it happens.

I would also keep close track of him, all will be fine as long as he preforms up to her expectations, but the minute he does not his number will be up and she will start attacking him (typical woman,LOL). You will want to keep a net or something handy because you will most likely have to rescue him or she will eventually kill him.

I had a pair of Tomato Clowns for about 3 years that did wonderful together until she started to change also. I came home one evening and he was nowhere to be found! I looked for the better part of an hour and noticed that she kept going to spot were there was a small amount of room between 2 rocks. Got my flash light out and there he was wedged into a spot so tight that he could barley open his gills to breathe.

Not thinking I reached in and removed that rock to let him out, she attacked him with such vigor that I was not sure I was going to be able to get the net fast enough to save him. When I stuck the net in I swear to this day he ran right into it! I took him out and put him into one of my other tanks. Eventually I got rid of her to a pet store who's owner was trying to breed all kinds of clown fish.

Thank you for including your personal experience regarding my clownfish. So far so good with the male, but she keeps him on a tight leash. Vastly difference experience I am having with this female compared to other adult females. I do think the tank size has a lot to do with it, this tank is not big enough for the two of us anymore.

hey yea i went through the same for a long time with my clowns. The female use to tear chunks of my flesh off and spit into the tank. i have had 2 pairs and they all have done the same. this is why in my redone tank i have sworn off clowns they get extremely mean as they age. Between me and my father we have lost many shrimp and a few fish to them. But i do agree with every they are or have become a mated pair so you will be having eggs soon enough.

Sorry for all your frustrations corailline! I had a maroon clown that went rogue on me in my old 24 nano. I wanted to add a pair o' clowns to my tank but I'm gonna give it a little ore thought now. LOL Hope all works out for you and she lets you back in the tank at some point!

It is just ridiculous, here I am afraid of a clownfish. She bites hard and does not stop. I have been bitten before but not so aggressively or hard.

Again size of the tank, seems they need more space. Never had a adult pair in a nano before. So lesson learned, bummmer.

Have you tried using a turkey baster and give her a blast or two of water before you put you hand in the tank? Might be worth a try...

I have tried many things, I tried distraction. The BF puts his hand in the tank when I am working, she could care less about him. It is me she dislikes.::)

Get a rolled up newspaper and thump her on her snout. Works wonders with my wife. ;D
