    its not "new" its a new sand bed and 100% water change live rock is all year old rock from the 55g

    Ok cool, new sand will give you a fairly substantial cycle since most of the macrofauna and bacteria live in the sand bed. The cycled mature live rock will seed the sand, so you should be ok. That explains the small amount of NO3. Once the sand settles and seeds, it will go away completely.
