Firefish will hover in the middle of the tank. Maybe a damsel.

you sure? there will be a pair of clowns in there to and I wouldn't want an assessor to get hurt from the damsel.

I have a 29 with a yellow tailed damsel and a pair of percula clowns and all is well. Every once in awhile he chases one of the clowns, usually at feeding time. But they get along fine. I don't know what an assessor is though. Just pick a more docile damsel like a yellow tailed and add him last after the other fish are established.

Green or blue reef chromis are active swimmers that like open space and are a lot less aggressive than damsels.

I wouldn't put a chromis or damsel in there.(Truthfully I wouldn't put anything else in such a small tank but thats just me.) As far as free swimming space you don't have much. Chromis get fairly large and are active swimmers.Stick with the list you have the clowns and assesor. Good luck

I would add the assesor first.Clowns are damsels so I would be equally worried about them getting aggresive.
