do you mean public aquarium - where people pay to look at things aquatic
or do you mean an aquarium store

if its the former - I know nothing worth knowing about that

if its the later - I know nothing worth knowing about it either, but do have some opinions.

Money would be the 1st thing on my list - and plenty of it
most new businesses go under simply due to lack of funds to tide them over until they secured a customer base

research- location/ location/ location - you need to scope areas that have a degree of wealth ( money to burn on hobbies) where there is limited competition for the product you offer

advice from anyone whose done it would be high on my list.

I work at a state level public Aquarium, and you better have support and money and more support and investors all over the place if that's what you're thinking about. ONE of the tanks in the first building at the TN Aquarium has 2 eight foot tall, 3 feet in diameter protein skimmers filtering the water. Those alone would cost an arm, leg, firstborn, and kidney. So I'm assuming this is not what you were asking about...

If you are starting a business (or thinking about it) another big thing is money. You need to have a strong foundation to start off with, because most small businesses don't really start pulling in a profit until 3 or 5 years later. The first year mostly means losing money, and then slowly balancing out, then finally going on the upswing. The biggest thing to prepare for is the potential money lost before money gained.

Going into a business with a partner, or at least with some people willing to invest in it, could help out tremendously. Even getting some friends to help plan and pull strings helps. Starting a business is something you definitely don't want to try yourself, unless you know full well what you're getting into.

I hope this is what you are looking for :)

Money, money, money. You would need to invest in alot of things like filtrations, tanks, supplies. And I would put the store by were all the people with the big bucks are. And also maybe have a buddy help you out with it,

If you are trying to open a public aquarium I am sure you are going to need alot of licences and permits which are very expensive in them selves.
