Hey guys. Just wanted to start a thread on the pico reef I'm setting up. Its small only three gallons. My friend is moving to a 30 cube so he wants nothing to do with his pico reef. Thus I made a deal to trade some coral for it. Its just a tank and filtration I believe. Hopefully I'll get it monday when I see him at school. Any advice would help. I heard they are extremely temperamental but I can work with a challenge. Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!!

regular top offs - are essential in smaller systems IMO - I seemed to lose about 1/2 litre per day on a 5 gallon tank and only about 1 litre in my chilled 70.
As are keeping the stocking levels on the low side , as many are run without skimmers

    good luck with it
and I look forward to seeing your progress

    Steve

Yeah thanks. It can't be to difficult ha ha jk Its not a very big project and its nothing spectacular. But its pretty much gonna cost me nothing and give me something to do in the marine hobby. I would just move to a 80 cube but I'm in high school and that money has to go other places..... like gas unfortunately.

My first reef tank was a 3 gallon Eclipse. I had it for 4 years with not a single issue (this was back when people said it couldn't be done LOL). I had one fish in there for a while, an Atlantic filefish to eat the aiptasia -- which it did until its death during a severe thunderstorm. Otherwise I just had about 3" of sand or so, some live rock, some snails, a couple of tiny hermits, a peppermint shrimp, and a porcelain crab, along with some mushrooms. I rarely did water changes (no bioload, really), and didn't have to top off too much since it had a complete top on it. It turned out to be the easiest tank I had of the 3!

Yeah ha ha I won't overstock the pico reef. I'm not even sure what kind of a fish I could put in there. Maybe a little goby or something. Any suggestions?? The tank has a 9w 50/50 power compact on it. That should work for some zoanthids and mushrooms. Now I just gotta find a place to put the pico reef in my room.

My overstocked 55 has become a little less over stocked now. The 5 chromis' that i had are all gone now. 2 jumped outta the tank. And the other 3 are declared missing in action...... somehow
