Hey all, I have a 20gallon right now and a 40gallon which i will transfer too soon and I have been looking for a decent priced skimmer. I found this one on ebay and it looks pretty decent, at this point im not doing any hardcore corals and honestly I prob never will just hardy stuff so it really doesn't have to be the best skimmer on the market.

I'm not gona lie overall I am a cheap guy and I know its not good to skimp on saltwater filtration, specially a skimmer but I just think skimmers are over priced, Im not willing to pay 150 bucks when I'm not gona do sensitive corals.

So let me know what you think of this skimmer or if anyone has any experience with it.It says its rated to 50-75 which I would only have it on a 40.

That looks like the BH-1000. I use one on my 40 gallon. It works well.

When it comes to skimmers and lighting you get what you pay for. You'll regret going cheap. But getting something used like that reef octo on ebay is always an option.

I agree with skimmers, but do not when it comes to lighting.

Hey guys I wound up getting this skimmer and it has its good and bad points.

    Good:
    1. Cheap cheap cheap
    2. Actually works for the most part, produces wet and dry skimate
    3. Large so could work on medium size tanks
    4. Produces good amount of microbubbles

    Bad:
    1. Has to constantly be adjusted to work properly
    2. Leaks microbubbles back into tank if you dont use large sponge on return
    3. Loud

This is not a set and leave alone skimmer it takes adjusting almost every day to collected good amount of junk. It also almost overflowed the collection cup on me the other day when i got home from work.

Overall for the price its a good deal, for the more serious enthusiast it could be a really cheap backup skimmer. But it is a good buy for the budget hobbyist it just takes some adjusting

I just got one of these awhile back. The loudness is the air venturi, which I plan of building a muffler for to quiet it down.

As for the adjustment issue, are you running it HOB or in sump? This skimmer is really sensitive to the depth it is in, so unless you have an ATO or run it in a sump compartment where the water is a constant level, then yes it will require adjustment. And removing the sponge from the output will help with this also.

Also about the microbubbles, how long have u had it running? They take along time to break in and stop micro bubbles, vinegar can reduce this time.

I'm going to do an Odyssea mod thread when I get mine back up and running, and detail doing some pump modifications, a silencer for the air intake, and some overall adjustment tips and tricks. These things are good for the money, they just aren't plug and play.
