So it's favites and not favia? I hate close names LOL.
It's also getting full light, but it seems to be enjoying it. Hasn't changed color and has learned that I feed with the lights on, so it puts out its feeder tentacles around feeding time. Should I still move it down if it doesn't seem to be having any adverse effects?

Only if it starts losing color.

    OK, thanks.
So, is there a difference between favia and favites? I saw someone correct someone else once that something was a favia and not favites, so I was just wondering LOL. Don't want to run around calling it the wrong thing!

Yes, and they are very difficult to tell the difference. Favites do not split polyps in the middle of a colony only on the edge. Be careful in the placement of Faviid corals as species fight very aggressively. Leptastrea, Caulastrea, Platygyra and Goniastrea are all Faviid corals also. I think Favias are the most aggressive IME.

Fantastic, thanks! Well, I wouldn't call mine a colony, so maybe I might never know LMAO. Actually, I do think it's growing, or maybe it's just wishful thinking!

I don't think I'll have to worry much about placement, since I don't plan on getting any more (this is not something I would ever have bought, the guy gave it to us free). My forays into LPS will probably be limited to bubble coral or a frogspawn or hammer. Maybe an open brain on the sand (probably not with AH sifting around down there). I still plan on sticking with softies, I just like them better!

So I tried moving my zoas to lower light, and they didn't like it. They started stretching out toward the light & staying closed a lot. After a couple of moves, I put them basically back where they started. They're certainly open a lot more now and have started to lower back down. I'll just have to deal with the "all orange" business. Unfortunately, while they were in less light, a tentacle type sponge started growing on them, so a couple of them in the middle will never get any shorter as it grew up them!

Also, I moved the favites down, because it was definitely losing color when I went back & looked at old pics. I think it was still getting too much light where I ended up moving it to, plus it was really hard to feed & the peps would steal its food, so I moved it again to a shaded spot halfway up the tank. It was pretty ticked off for a few days, but it finally ate the other day and has been puffy and ready to eat every day for a few days now. Last count there were 11 mouths on it...up from 9 last time I checked.

    Here it is earlier today.

    And right now. Extra puffy!
