Hi all - I've been lurking around the forum for a bit and finally decided to join tonight. I had a 40 gallon salt tank about 7 years ago, and I am learning quickly that things in the hobby have changed quite a bit, seemingly for the better! man I've got a lot to lean, a bit overwhelmed to be honest! I finally have a great spot for a proper tank, and although I would love a 125-150 gallon set up, I simply don't have room for it, so I have settled on a 90 gallon, which I really like the size of. I've priced out buying all the equipment new (yikes!) and have decided that used is more in my budget. I have found a great looking set up that is just under 2 years old, and I should be able to get it for a fair price. I'm going to look at it, and hopefully pick it up this weekend to bring to it's new home. First and foremost, here is what I'll be looking at...

    90 Gal tank
    30 gal Refugiam sump filter
    Refugiam Light
    Eheim water return pump
    Euro Reef protein skimmer
2 Koralia Power head in-tank pumps
    Submersible Heater
    Reverse Osmosis water purifing filter
    T-5 retro saltwater light ballast
    120lbs of live fiji rock
2 percula clown fish, 1 tomato clown, 1 Blue hippo tank, 1 neon watchman goby, Various crustaceans

From what I've read thus far, it seems to be a pretty standard set up with most everything I'll need to get started. Any opinions, suggestions, recommendations would be appreciated.

Also, one of my challenges if I buy this tank is moving it. It's about an hour and change away, I'm confident that I can fit everything in one trip, and will be taking as much of the existing water as I can, but any tips on moving a tank successfully will also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, glad I found the forum!

    Mike

That is almost the same setup I have been collecting parts for.

Parts look good. Buy a bunch of 5 gallon buckets at Home Depot and get lids. Put the live rock in buckets with enough water to cover the rock. Put the fish in one bucket. Put the crustaceans in another bucket or in the ones with live rock. If you can move it leave the sand in the tank with an inch or two of water, try not to disturb it.

Trick your buddies into helping move the tank at least.

Thanks for the replies, I am going to hopefully pick this tank up tomorrow evening, and I have a bunch of tubs and buckets to move as much water as possible from the tank. I have a couple of questions.

I talked to my LFS and they told me that if the sand in the bottom of the tank has ben there longer than a year, to get rid of it and start new, and just put a cup of so of the old sand in it to get it going, do I really need to buy new sand or can I use the old?

Once I get home, I plan to have the fish and any thing live set up at home in a large tub with a powerhead and heater while I get things set up, problem is, it might take a bit with what I have to do, plubming and what not. If I keep the water in the tub at temp, and keep the powerhead moving water, how long do I have until I start risking the fish? Will they be OK for say close to 24 hours?

    Thanks!
