We found one locally on craigslist for $49. Just wondering if its worth the money. If you have one or have used one please post up your experience. We have read mixed reviews online but as usual alot of those can be from user error. We dont need the best skimmer on the planet and thats not what we are expecting, just want to know if it will perform ok on our small 40g tank.

Not worth the money. I had one on a 35gal and when it actually was working it was pulling a pathetic amount of skimmates.

Pretty loud. My friend had one and when I tried to crash on his couch, I couldn't sleep.

When mine was working it didn't pull much and it was pain to clean and the collection cup is tiny. I could never keep mine working for more than a day or two. There are far better options out there IMO.

Okay thanks for the help we will pass on buying it we'll keep looking it's been hard to find a not really expensive used one in our local area. Are there any brands that we should look for that aren't outragously expensive new or used?

these fall in the category of seaclones...

these skimmer were developed to target the beginners with a low budget for this hobby... knowing that they are very affordable but not very productive

Look for AquaC Remora skimmers, some people like their coralife skimmer as well, but for that size tank, the aquaC will be perfect.
