I am new to reefing but not to aquaria, I have a 150 gallon african setup for several yrs now. Anyway, a friend of mine is going through a divorce, and asked me if I could take his setup... everything except tank and stand, for free! Hard to say no. So I setup a 30 long that I had lying around, got a bunch of buckets and broke down his tank, and setup mine. Beautiful. All tank occupants seem to have made the move without incident, only question I have is about the skimmer, will it have to go through a break in period now that it is on a new setup? Its bubbling fine, just not producing any skimmate yet. By the way, I used all his water, coral, lr, critters and fish...etc. only thing I changed was that I purchased new live sand, I opted to go with a dsb. The skimmer is coralife superskimmer 65. I am crammin in all the info I can get. Any opinions or suggestions are welcome, thanks in advance... new guy.

    welcome to 3Reef.
you will still get a small cycle from the new sand. I have the same skimmer it ussally takes a while before it will start producing skimate so give it some time. What size tank was your friends?

The setup it came from was a 60g hex tank.

Uh-oh... he said deep sand bed, lol. Well I'd say if everything lived that went very smoothly for your first saltwater. Good Luck in reefing!

Your skimmer will only go through one break-in period, kinda like a new car. When you sell it it doesn't have to be broke-in again
