Ok my 125gallon reef has been set up for almost 5 months. So far doing well. {knock on wood} Parms good everyone happy. Even the wife. I am running two bio-wheel 350's and a rena xp4 and 3 korella 1400's. My ? is thinking about adding a GFO and a Carbon reactor possible switching to a sump-would be a HOB overflow and a skimmer. Does a in the sump skimmer use power or does it get it from the pump. I would probable still use power heads to operate reactors cheaper to run. Trying to cut back on the electricity use with all of the separate items. Not sure what all is in a sump and what I am duplicating by doing it the way I am. Not trying to mess up a good thing just planning for the future. Sorry for rambling and thanks to all for any in put.

Well what are you running in the xp4 and the biowheels? Are the wheels actually in the biowheel filters or did you remove them? A skimmer in the sump has its own pump. And reactors also are best ran off their own seperate pump. The sump would require a return pump of its own, so you wouldn't be cutting electricity costs very much. But it would be a lot cleaner setup than what you have and also a lot easier to maintain and also versitle.

Yes the wheels are in and they spin just fine. Had to remove a little hair algae. In the canister is the three different filters in bottom then there is ceramic beads/tubes then two socks with GFO in them them the fine prefilter last. It all works great except water level has to be monitored top off is added to tank but tank is not drilled and I don't plan on it. So if I went with a sump I would get a top of the line HOB overflow or I could just wait it out and In a year sell all of this and buy a bigger and predrilled tank. Just talked to a guy that wants 600 for his 265gal were was that guy 6 months ago. Any way thanks will keep researching.
