This was sold to me as a frogskin, however after looking around the web I am having serious doubts.

    What do you think?

    Looks like it has browned.

It could be IMO. It needs more light, lower nutrients, or better water quality so it colors up though. It's really hard to tell on such a small frag though, I would let it grow out and color up.

I just compared it quickly to a couple photos on liveaquaria's diver's den and it appears pretty similar to me.

Definite possibility, but look at the frag on the ORA corals site. Growth and the notable 'frogskin' is not even close to the same.

The frag is so small and you have no idea what part of the mother colony it was cut from so it might not look like every other frag out there. The water flow and light etc can affect growth form as well.

If you look at this, the spacing/shape/placement of the radial corallites (the ones on the side of the branch), look very similar to one of the branches here.
    ORA® Frogskin Acropora

Obviously, I'm not saying it definitely is a Frogskin, but it looks to me like there's a chance it is the same. I don't know if there's any way for you to be sure if it is or is not, identifying acropora is very difficult due to how variable they can be, especially as small frags.

It could easily be a frogskin, trouble with SPS is they are hard to idntify when they are tiny and brown like yours.

What kind of lighting and tank system do you have this in/under?

Let's try that again. 1.What type of lighting do you have it under? 2.What tank setup are you running?

    2x250MH @ 10Kk. 24xRB CREE LEDs.
55 gal with an ATS. Nitrates and Phosphates undetectable.

My other corals are fine, I just wanted to try and get a positive ID on this one. I actually have a ORA Marshall Island Green/Purple Acro that was misidentified as a frogskin as well.

I wonder why so much confusion seems to follow these ...

Because anything other than a species name can be translated to "This name was created by a person in order to sell more product".
