How easy is this coral to care for?? I know Acros can be a bit difficult but I am hoping being from captive strains for so long that an ORA RP would be similar to the stlyophora I currently have in terms of care and hardiness.

LFS has some decent sized small colonies for $30 so Ive been thinking of adding one to my tank to hopefully grow into a nice table.

They seem easy enough to care for, especially compared to other acros, however it is still an SPS and certain needs must be met.

However 30$ for mini colonies sounds like an excellent deal.

Thanks for your response. I figured it would be a moderate coral to care for as all SPS are. I know many consider Acros to be some of the most difficult so wasnt sure how the RP would measure up to the others.

My main concern is lighting. Flow is easy to provide and not a concern as are low nutrients since I am consistent with WC and testing. I have a dual bulb T5HO light and would put it closer to the surface of the water. I understand the RP is actually a lower light acro and if kept under high light will bleach or lose its green base coloration I am just not sure how little is too little

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
If Ca/Alk/Mag are consistent, I would get it.

It is an easy sps as far as acros go IME.

Can't argue with that, i would just get it if i were you (assuming your big 3 are stable).

Thanks for the replies. My big 3 hold pretty steady with Mag ranging from 1440-1520 and CA from 430-450. Alk is the only thing I need to try and improve holds steady at 8 would like it to be more like 10-12.

if its steady i wouldn't worry about it too much, my reef hold a lower pH than is recommended, but it doesn't change much so my tank is healthy. however if you do bring it up, do it slowly.

My pH seems stuck at 7.8 no matter when I test or what my alk is. Very fustrating I gave up trying to correct it to 8.2 everything is healthy and growing

ora RP is IMO a fairly easy sps. +1^ if your big 3 are good go for it. As for the ph as long as it is stable, dont stress. That is what many agree upon. 7.8 is acceptable and probably better to be stable there, than you trying to constantly alter it...just my .02

Red Planet was one of the most hardy SPS that I had in my tank. Definitely a good starter acro. Gorgeous and easy.

    High flow, med/high light.
