    Thanks Steve and grinder,

Yeah dyslexia is a wonderful thing, insert wrong word and never ever see it, but yes horizontally. Everything they touch they encrust.

This will be the multiple generation RP thread. :) See how many generations I can get from my the original frag.

I actually had a conversation about horizontal frags a few months ago with one of the guys at my LFS. He also had great results as Corailline did and I made it a point to glue them horizontally as well and give it a try myself. It does make sense since there is more surface for it to attach and then grow.

Cool pics as always, Cheryl. You should teach me the best type of settings. I struggle with my camera every time.

    Hey Magnus,

Cool I am glad someone else see the same results and yes it makes total sense to me.

I am going to frag my Millepora and Tortousa and both will go horizontal as well.

Camera hints that worked for me,

    Reduce exposure setting
    Tripod or equiv.
    No flash
Do not use auto focus. I can use manual focus and digital macro settings but as soon as I put it back on auto focus the exposure goes back to it's original setting.

Thanks a bunch for the hints. Any way to keep everything from showing super blue on pics?

No idea, because I am using metal halide so it's not that blue.

2in10 had the ability to turn off his blue T5 bulb I believe and that really took out the blue. Some do the same with LED if they have that option.

You can use an editing program, even simple ones will allow you to increase and decrease the different shades of blues, greens and reds. I tried it a couple times but the images look photo shopped.

It's amazing how hard it is to take a simple image of a tank. The back lighting and reflection play a part too. For crisp outlines I close curtains or wait until dark.

    Very cool discovery, Corailine!
Have you been seeing increased growth from the other coral you placed horrizontally too?
    Great pictures also :)

    Thanks

Yes I have 2 others glued like that but not as old.

Steve Wright was the one that suggested it long ago, can not remember the context but he made the argument about increased surface area and possibly faster growth.

It just one of those things you got to try. There were some that told me I was an idiot and not in a nice way. But some old time reefers backed it up with their experience.

If you are interested in different fragging styles, there used to be a thread on RC where someone fragged different colored Montipora into patterns and let them grow out. I will have to find that thread it was so cool
