    What works for me.

Consistent Ca/Alk/magnesium levels via 2 part dosing.
    Monthly water changes of 20%.
    Intense lighting.

Low bioload of fish and inverts.

I myself think a more established tank that is showing good coralline growth, low phosphates and nitrates gives you a better chance of success initially.

I do feed my sps about every 3 days.

Well I have most of that down.. I don't think it would be possible for me to do a monthly pwc. I have a 30 gallon tank. My trates are undetectable but I'm no sure about the phos. Might buy a reactor at some point. What do you feed yours? I have been doing Rotifers but I'm not sure if that's good. Thanks :)

Rod's foods, I hear good things about Reef Chili as well. Found out my sps liked Rod's foods by accident after trying most foods designed specifically for corals and sps.

I'm so very jealous of your RP.. Thats like my goal is just to have my tank going long enough for SOMETHING to break the surface lol. My RP is finally growing some appendages to it.. Maybe in a few years I'll have something resembling yours!!

    Thanks aw1447,

    They grow so fast.

Just a polyp image, no green at the tips now just red, frags and base still very green. RP does pretty well under less intense lighting but it loves the light too.

broke the surface! well congratulations :)
now its time to frag half the colony off and sell it in chunks. But I am being serious though. once they reach the top of the water they slow down in growth A LOT and only slowly grow outwards. after a year or two the center starts to die... unless you frag a large portion off of it!

Honestly its helping the RP out by keeping it happy with room to grow. plus its interesting to see how different/ the same it grows out the second time around

Similar to clipping foliage on a plant. You clip the top or in this case reach the surface and you get horizontal growth.

    Nice shot!! Haha... Love it!

OR... you could lower it to give it more room to grow. ;)
