I see.... so in your opinion are LPS easier in general than sps?

Yes, both do well in an established tank, but you can usually introduce LPS to a new tank and with the proper lighting, water parameters the LPS can thrive. I will add that sometimes I think with all the specialized equipment and media available sometimes you can over polish the water and stip it of needed nutrients. It is a fine line and more easily achieved in a tank of 6 months or more. We test for all the routine parameters but I believe there are many things that we can not test for that play a large part in coral health.

I often wondered about over polishing taking too many things from the water as I totally agree... while we've come a long way in understanding how to keep corals that just a couple decades ago were near impossible to keep, we are still a long way from understanding everything it takes to make many corals thrive. Thanks and nice job again on your sps's!

    off to work now!

I agree and disagree with this. SPS don't need an established tank, only one with constant parameters. What an established tank offers is bioderversity and built in buffers to keep all water leavels MORE consistant. All the micro zooplankton that a good system can generate on small levels gives SPS more food than just light, and you also can't keep as many fish in a newer system, especially tangs which poop alot (best SPS food around). A tang single-handedly improved my SPS's color and growth by 100%

The RP at 6 months, but it doubled size in the last 2 months.

The Acropora Tri-tip Valida, growth at three months pictured below, and after accidentally fragging the tip off.

    RP at 4 months.

My RP bleached again....... I don't get it I think It needs to be moved off the rack to the bottom of my tank. I only have 4 t-5s for crying out loud. Nice growth!!!!!!!

    Thanks doylef4i :)

Thanks ingtar_shinowa. Bleached again, I do not get it. Mine is like 10 inches away from metal halide. Guess all you can do is move it down and see what happens.

4 T5HO are similar in PAR production to 250W MH with both bulbs using top of the line reflectors. So you will either have a very red or bleached RP depending on placement and the coral itself.
