how many changes can i do in what time period. i did one 3 days ago. i dont feed much at all. could it be something from feeding the nem table shrimp? ive only fed it once so far. i just dont know what it could be. i changed my carbon last night. and my skimmer will be here very soon i hope. i have noticed that my hermits have been vanishing i dont know if its the starfish eating them or what the deal is but im at a loss right now.

yes this could be the source...

I believe it is either cyano (although it is odd that you dont have it on your rocks or substrate) or as I said earlier, dinoflagellates. I saw some stringy stuff on your rocks which makes me still think it is dinoflagellates.

was it a thick mat at the base of the strings or was it just individual little strings packed tightly together?

And have the strings ever had air bubbles on them?

ummm. not really a thick mat but it is a mat. and theres never been alot of strings just random ones. there has been airbubbles trapped in them but thats because my FW tetra filter puts bubbles EVERYWHERE lol they get in my gha too.

if there was a continuous mat and random strings then it sounds like cyano. and that is how it grows on the glass also so im pretty sure that is about a 90% fit right there.

To cure it up you have to remove the extra DOC (dissolved organic carbon) in your water. this can easily be done by adding a skimmer and/or macro algae

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Looked again, looks like the typical mixture of new tank algaes.

    Diatoms
    Cyano
    GHA

Looks like you have 2 power heads, what are they?

I would start with manual removal of all three, clean all mechanical filters after the water clears, increase wc, small but more frequent everytime you clean it. Reducing the photoperiod dramatically or a totally black out and some chemure elite or purigen or equiv.

ill be getting more water tonight when i go out for another 5 gal water change. i remove as much of the GHA as i can when i do them my tank vac works well for that but theres always still a layer that doesnt break loose. the powerheads are 425 K nanos. i bought a coralife 220g skimmer that should be in shortly. i want another 425 for the back of the tank but im waiting to see what kind of output this skimmer gives me before i invest another 40 bucks lol
