I purchased this specimen from the LFS a couple of days ago and I can't really tell how well it's doing. I've never had a plate coral before and would love to see this orange beauty survive. Here are some pics:

Any suggestions as to what to do would be great. It seems as if the skeleton is showing through a bit. Was considering dipping it while I did a water change this afternoon.

An iodine dip for all corals is always a good idea. The coral looks ok and as long as more areas of the skeleton don't become exposed, it may recover. The coral should be a bit puffier though but it could just be acclimating to your tank. Once it puffs up, you should feed it small chunks of meaty food.

I sometimes feed mine 2 or 3 times a week, as Amcarrig said feed small chunks of meat..
I use fresh shrimp and squid.. Placed right on the center.. It'll eat when it wants to..
    A very nice coral

Thanks guys. Still doing well, except some cyano has found it's way onto the skeleton and it's a pain to keep it off.

    Plate coral...

Awesome orange on that plate! We have a green one. When we got ours, he didn't look as good as he does today. We placed him in the middle of the tank on some LR and fed him Hikari brand and later Piscine brand of frozen mysis shrimp on a daily basis. His appearance improved dramatically.

We slowly decreased the feeding frequency until it was as about twice a week, but the Green Spotted Puffer kept stealing his food and his appearance declined. The Tomato Clown also steals his shrimp chunks. So we are increasing the feedings to daily while he is surrounded by a Coke bottle until he's done eating, and then we'll try every other day to see how he does. The variety is Piscine mysis, live brine from the LFS, and chopped up fresh shrimp from the grocery store. We enrich the brine and the mysis with Kent Zoecon and Kent Zoe.

Here's a picture of him a while back being a fatty. He would be like this when I got home from work, and by the time Sea Dragon (my wonderful wifey) came home about 2 hours later, the plate would have become a little shorter but still looked full and had tentacles flowing.

That's what I thought too..when i had a LTP if i just looked at it wrong it's flesh would tear..I do think that short tentacles are a lot hardier than the long tentacles though..
