I tagged a long with a friend to a meeting about 150 miles away from me and went to an Lfs

They had a gorgeous display tank and a lot of their corralline was reddish and orangeish. Only corralline I have is purple or green

I tried to buy a piece of rock with it but they wouldn't sell it.... Even went so low as asking for some scrapings... No go :(

Where do these colors come from ? Anyone with it wanna mail me some shavings :)

If you think the orange coralline looks good during the day, you ought to see it at night under blue moonlights. It really glows.

Yes, coralline comes in a variety of colors. I used to have purple, pink, red, orange and green all in one tank. :)

I really didn't even have live rock-- I used base rock and live sand and that's what started growing on my rockwork after the first few months.

It's pretty rare. I only had it on one rock and Schackmel took the rock out of the tank and let it dry completely out. (I was NOT pleased).

I have some all over my tank, but it doesn't take off. A lot of it tends to be in shaded areas and tends to go away. You can see it well when the actinide are on, as it fluoresces, but otherwise I tend not to notice it. Orange seems to go with red though, but for certain reasons I think some of it may actually be discolored, possibly dying or new, red coralline.

I've never added it, spores are litterally everywhere. Whether it grows or not tends to be related to water chemistry and especially the surfaces and surface conditioning by various microbes and other organisms.

The store wouldn't sell you some scrapings?! Does their business run on free-looks or what?
