I was wondering who has experience with the Orchid Dottyback? I read somewhere that they are the "least" aggressive of the dottybacks, but would like some info/experiences with this fish...

    thanks...

dont really know anything about them, but I have a Royal Gramma that is VERY passive, so i think it just depends on the fish's mentality

ive had one for 6-7 years and hes he best. my favorite fish ever. hardly ever has any territorial issues unless someone gets within an inch or two of his sleeping hole

These can be very territorial as in the whole tank, or sedate. Hard to say what one you will get.

i had a pair of the tank raised dotty backs and they are awesome fish, one of the fish i miss most. (they were sold with the tank...what a mistake. but we wont go there .... well they did get a good new owner but still :( ), they were mating in my tank. ... the fish not the new owners... haha.... anyway i was never able to save the babies . the other fish i guess got to them first. they are like clowns and one will become the male and one the female. get them young. if you want a pair. i plan on putting a pair in the new tank. its sweet to see the mating and the bubble nest they create

Those would be a bit of work, like clowns to raise. Rotifers, bbs, all that good stuff for live foods you need to feed fish that hatch from eggs like most do.

I've read that they are both the "nicest" dottybacks and also total terrors. Really depends on the fish. I've been told by many people to just stay away from dottybacks entirely.

i had 2 different types of wrasses in my tank with the pair of dottybacks and never a problem with the fish getting along so i wouldnt believe that write up about dotty backs since it says about not to put them with wrasses. i also had helfirchi firefish, jaw fish, chromis, anthias. and a maroon clown. the clown was the most agressive. this was in a 58 gallon.
i really think the key is picking fish that are listed as being ok to put together.
i have always relied on this chart . i know nothings fail safe. but i find this to really up your chances on picking fish that work together.Marine Compatability Chart
