I've been trying to get my hands on a pair of these guys for some time now. I never knew that they were sexed like clowns. Hopefully this week I'll get my pair.
Really nice fish just don't mix them with royal grammas or magenta dottybacks.

Well, here is my story about an indigo dottyback ( fridmani crossed witha sankeyii- bred for mellow temperment).

My indigo dottyback has killed about 200 dollars of wrasses and shrimp. A christmas wrasse, 2 lubbocks wrasses, 2 solar wrasses, a couple scarlet cleaner shrimp, and a few other fish that were not super expensive but it all tallied up to a $200 or so total.

Prior to being int he 200g, this fish did all this, and harassed the heck out of any new addition that was not a tang , or the large radiant wrasse I have. This fish has been a lot better behaved since the move to the 200g. Maybe it needed more space? the old 90g, and the 35g it was in before were never cramped for fish though.

I've had this indigo dottyback for like 3-4 years. Maybe more.

wow! :( sorry to hear about your huge loss of fish, wonder if the indigos are more aggressive?. guess i was lucky. or mine were to busy mating ... hehe seriously. i had a problem with the male getting aggressive, never killed a fish though, but i figured let me catch him and her and they can live in the refugium it was 30 gallons plenty of room. well i got him but when she seen that no way could she be caught. after about a week of trying. i felt bad for him being there alone, and put him back in the tank. when put back in he went right to his home a small hole in the rock, than quickly went to find her. they seemed so happy to see each other it was cute how they swam around together. ... this is what tells me fish remember ( food for thought for those who think fish don't have thought and feelings). but anyway from that point on he behaved and the two were in there own world and didn't bug others at all. there always seemed to be a bubble nest in his hole in the rock. rarely was he without eggs to care for. i really did enjoy those fish. and hope to get another pair. im sorry i sold my tank. huge mistake. but it was sold all together in hopes of keeping all the fish together since all the fish seemed to get along. oh well starting new

Well, the sankeyii (black and white striped) and the fridmani (orchid) are supposed to be the 2 most docile pseudochromis species. ORA specifically bred the indigo to be a mellow nice dottyback, and in many occasions, as in all the rest of the tanks that I know of that guys (in my club) have indigo' d Backs in there are no issues.

Mine, while it is the best looking of all of the ones in my club, is definitely the most aggro of all of them. Or well it used to be at least. It did not bother any of the baby ocellaris clowns (1/2-3/4") I put in the DT. Then again, they went right for the BTA's, so the dottyback couldn't be mean to them;)

I was going to get an orchid dottyback. Ended up with one that looked like it (magenta). But it wasn't. Still a dottyback, it terrorized the tank. You are correct, they have the reputation of being the least evil of the lot. But I tell ya.....I will never, EVER try one again. Not after the beast.

The magenta that I had in my reef was looking like hell up until I caught him out. He was being harassed by my damsels. They sure took a toll on him. I initially bought him to keep my damsels at bay so they wouldn't attack my other fish but my plan backfired. He's now in a safe house 30gal in my fish room.

My Lfs placed an order for one so could be week or few days. I just had to return a flametail blenny who was extremely aggressive so my luck with getting fish that are the norm isn't so good already
