as the subject says, have a couple of questions. first, i'm in south florida but assume I still need a heater, recommendations for a good cheap one that will get the job done? also need a good inexpensive test kit.

finally the place I was gonna order from is in California and I doubt I'll have the tank by christmas. any recommendations on a place thats closer to florida for a good price?

The place I was ordering from was 587.50 shipped. thats including the coupon they have for 10% off. it is petstore.com

    My advice:
Do not cheap on your heater or your test kits.

They are vital pieces of equipment that you will only end up buying again later when the cheaper product fails or gives you bad results.

    For heaters:
    EBO Jager/Eheim are good

    Test kits:

    Salifert is #1 by far.
For starters you will want the following test kits:
    pH
    dKH/Alkalinity
    Calcium
    Magnesium
    Ammonia
    Nitrate
    Phosphate

That set will run you over $100 for the test kits but for a small tank they (or any tank for that matter) it's vital to be able to test your params as stability is more difficult with smaller tanks.

    As for online ordering:

    bigalsonline

    marinedepot

    drsfosterandsmith

    aquacave

There are several sponsors on this forum that have coupon codes that will help you with the purchase.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Congradulations on the new tank

Must be the 28 gal tank. I am currently running the JBJ HQI.

Personally I would get a heater to prevent temperature swings.

Order from Big Al's, Foster and Smith Aquatics or Aqua Cave to get the tank there sooner.

Definitely get a good heater and good test kits. API kits will work fine. Definitely get the kits M-Ocean suggested.

does big als sell it? i'd like to order from there, because they have 10% off. but i don't see it on the site. only the power compact one. also I read somewhere they take 48 hours to ship. trying to find it on aquacave, will do that a little later. was looking at premium aquatics as they are in like indiana but no coupons.
