goys, i just wanted to say that i am sooooooo glad i found this forum. i was a member of another forum but man, they made me feel like i was from another planet because i use a (gasp!!!!!!!!) wet dri filter. i never felt like i belonged there because i was so old school. i have never felt like there was only one way to skin a cat. over there wet dri=leprosy, i don't have a dsb, i don't have a refugium,i don't have a plenum, and my tank has been set up for 9 years and it is doing quite nicely. also over there the red sea berlin is akin to the skilter, well excuse me my TWO berlins one one my reef and one on my all fish tank are doing a great job, they always have. here on this forum i feel like you guys take me and others like me for what we are lovers of reefs that don't feel like we have to use the next better mouse trap to have a sucessful reef. i have nothing against dsb's, refugiums, or plenums, if they work for you thats wonderful, if you use a mason jar and a coffee filter and that works thats wonderful, just please don't make me feel like i am a leper because i use a wet dri and have for 9 years. so once again i thank the stars above that i found this forum.(now carefully climbing down from my soapbox as i am using it as a sump for my next wet dri)

If your using a wet/dry, keep using it! You are absolutely right when you said there is more than one way to skin a cat. Keep up the good work. It looks great. ;D

I don't care what you are using, it sure is working!!! Nice looking tank. ;) I don't think there really is such a thing as old school, whatever works, works...learning from history is the way to more knowledgeable decisions. Nobody is truly well-rounded on any subject unless they have embraced what came before and used it as the base for their personal philosophy.

You use a Wet/Dry That's it BANNED FOR LIFE. :)
Since I've been with 3Reef we have seen some pretty diverse set ups.  a couple of people even swore by EcoAqualizers ;) .  but the group we have, have varying levels of experience and we all sponge up as much info as we can. So having a wet/Dry will only give us a better understanding of how your coral react and grow under that set up.  As far as I'm concerned diversity of set ups on 3Reef means I can learn all about different equipment without having to invest in it.

    Beautiful Tank BTW

Please tell us your routine and what things you do to avoid an unwanted build up opf nitrates and phosphates. As previuosly mentioned, we can all learn from each other.

I have a DSB and a refugium but take care to properly maintain them and export as much of the detritus, phosphates, and nitrates as possible.

    Glad you found us!

I would almost bet that I know which other forum it is too :)

It's a real pity that places like that become so polarised in their opinions. It wasn't that long ago that if you argued against a DSB you would be shouted down as it ( the DSB ) was the cure all for everything.

    John

PS. Disclaimer, this is not a paid anti DSB announcement :)

i do employ a coiled denitrator and i do 20 gal water changes every sunday, i feed 3 times a week, and feed dt phyto every other day, nitrates do not even register on a test kit, i really do think it's the coiled denitrator that is doing most of the work, and i do water changes just because i think it's a good thing for the tank. i also live by the old addage of '' iffin it ain't broke, don't be fixin on it" somebody on that other forum actually said that if a lfs said to get a wet dri that you should find another lfs. personally, if a lfs said that their way was the only way, then i would find another lfs. once again it's great to be home.
