I bought this canister filter from a LFS that I usually dont go to about 6 months ago. This was our first time using a canister filter and really had no idea. It looked like a great deal, it was fairly cheap. But I honestly think the thing is a piece of crap. It hardly works, the motor sounds like its struggling every minute of the day, and the output barely has any flow coming out. We have tried everything to improve, making sure all the pipes are clean, everything is tight, and nothing. The worst part of all is this piece of crap, doesnt even have a manufacturers address or phone number. I think I got ripped off royally. Anyone have any suggestions on a different, not too expensive canister filter?

Have you ever contemplated a sump set up? maybee you could do one up for close to a new cannister filter.

I have no idea where to begin with a sump or a refugium- really dont know the difference sorry. I heard they were really beneficial though.

    UPDATE!
My canister filter is still a piece. We had to change some media in it yesterday. It has shut off valves but it still siphons water so we had to pull the intake tube completely out of the water. Then when we hooked everything all back up we got like 50% less flow. We couldnt figure anything out. We tried taking pretty much everything apart to make sure it was clean and tight and still we got pretty much a trickle for flow. I ADVICE you NEVER buy this piece of crap. Its terrible. Needless to say we are looking at different options for filtration.

    not good

cut your losses and throw it out. I started with FilStar Canister Filters XP2. It worked great. If you are thinking about upgrading...get yourself a sump. You can always expand on it without adding more hoses in and out of your tank. I use my XP2 for cleaning my tank. Hook it up to suck out chunks of algae and clean my gravel.
