Sweet camera. Fist thing I would test is the metering modes. There are 3 with your camera: Muti-pattern (49 segments), Centre weighted average, and Spot.

Because of many factors such as a very bright sand bed and the MH lighting. The metering setings will help you combat a Gamut that is way greater than the camera or a monitor can capture/display. I would use Centre weighted for most things. This will focus the exposure on what is dead centre of the frame, but also take into account the surroundings. For close up shots you may try Spot metering but you are likely to find the back ground goes to black quickly. This is a good effect when trying to highlight the subject.
many times I get exposure information (using spot) from another source in the tank. I do this by pressing the exposure button 1/2 way down then compose the shot at the subject and take the pic. Be sure to pick an exposure spot on the same focal plane.
Another good tip is to turn off your actinic lights when shooting. the camera will have an easier time funding a white balance without mixed lighting.

Let me know how that works out. Maybe post exposure test pics

Well I will have to read up on the camera because some of the things you are explaining is greek to me...:-/ I would of messed with it more tonight but I had my first casulity in the new tank. My smallest False Persula, (Nemo's Dad to my daughter) went through the eggcrate and got lodged in the OF and when I got him out he was dead. I spent the evening double layering the eggcrate with it offset in the middle so no one else can fit through there. I will stop at the LFS tomorrow after work and replace him before my little Trista finds out he is gone. Hard to explain death to at 4 year old. Got one picture taken before the MH's went out...it's ok I guess. The coral looks a heck of a lot better in person.

Those pics look pretty good actually. Can you adjust the white balance on your camera?

Karma for your fish loss...hopefully, your daughter will remain ignorant about the replacement!

There is a button for it but I have never used it. Maybe this evening I can get the book out and go through some things on it. First off I have to sneak a clown in the tank, sure hope these pair up and not fight. :-/

Just be sure that whatever clown you get, that it's smaller than the surviving clown in your tank. Take a look at that photography website I posted for you earlier. I like it because it's written in "plain" English and is easy to understand.

Otty I wish I could fly out there for a meeting!! Ive been going to a few around here, and they are not much fun :( . Im trying to start one in my home town to see if we can get some group orders, and some frag trading going. It is a pain to drive hours, or pray overnight will get here, for all your saltwater needs, . Let me see about some pics, I just put a Green Slimmer Acro, and a Blue Millipora in the tank. The slimmer was in a tank with one 150 watt 10k MH, so it turned it brown, and the millipora is just starting to come back to the beautiful blue they are known for!! I never thought I would like SPS corals, but they are really cool. Ill also see about getting some pics of my new blue throat trigger pair!!

Well I am happy to say that the new false persula paired up with Nemo after a little struggle. Ended up with a bacterial bloom from the fish that died because I really don't know how long he was in the strainer. The water will clear up and life will go on. My little Trista never knew the difference....shhhhhhhh! I'll never tell her! ;)

Still working on the camera bit and I will get some pics taken this weekend of the new corals to post....Thanks for the help and links Jason and Annick! ;D

Yes it will clear up still a bit unstable and young :) not a lot of room for error still . Thats the plus with using a wet/dry I find them a little more forgiving as jut one added bennift to a system.. When I get everything here changed to the basement in the next week or so I'll be putting my bio tower back in line with a huge set of pumps .. This is the first tank I ever ran with out a wet/dry tower with a blasting jet or water being pumped into the tower and with out that I see a large difference in Redox and Oxygen levels ..
