I have a 5 gal bucket full of Bio Balls that came with this tank, I guess I could use them or LR rubble as a wet dry filter, I have the room in the sump for it. Guess I just planned my weekend out hugh....:)

Use the Bio Ball rocks won't do as good of a job.. and don't worry about them becoming a Nitrate factory LOL I laugh every time I read that one. I'd also be willing to give you 5 to 2 odds that those saying this have never ran the bio system or if they did they never had a issue that could not be laid on them as a hobbyist and way way way over feeding a system to death.. we have a 6 ft tower at work and its been up since 92 and still never any nitrates. I have ran them as many if not more yrs and never NO3 to be found. But here in Ct I never have ran bio balls and we had NO3's LOL so I simple built a coil and problem solved and I run coils as a rule now anyways why not ? it cost nothing to operate .

I just got back from the Newport Aquarium in Kentucky and for their 1 million gallon shark tank they run a large Bio Ball Tower and fluidized sand beds for the filtration on it so I think it can only help me. Now I just need to find the large PVC or acrylic tube you were talking about.

You keep the levels I suggest they will grow like weeds never mind the nay sayers LOL.. I'm getting twice maybe 3x's the growth rates then most i know . Even at work I have the frags so jammed up since Feb we are about out of space .. Boss is like dang we just fragged that one last week and now its totally healed over and new growth.. But when I started to boost them levels he was like a tramp in church LOl. I was pouring in some strontium yesterday he asked what are the levels at ??? I looked at him and said Damn if I know never trusted the test kits , can you add to much ?? he laughed and left me alone.. I mix a stock solution from Kent's Turbo strontium here at home and use 16 oz aweek i my tank i go through 4 gallons aweek at work.. they used to use that much a yr! LOL
