    To cut the acrylic, you would have to take the sump offline for a couple hours or so. You could use a Dremel or Rotozip with a cutting blade and cut a notch off the top for the light to fit into. I wouldn't cut off the whole thing, it's hard to say if it will reduce the integrity of the side walls. I would just cut a small opening for the light to fit into.
