We almost had a tragedy yesterday! We've been using an egg crate top since I upgraded my lights (canopy no longer fits). Somehow, my peppermint hogfish managed to vault out of the tank through a hole in the egg crate (possibly at the cut out for one of the cords). Jwin just happened to be sitting at my computer and heard an odd splash. He did "roll call" and noticed that the hogfish was missing and found him behind the tank, covered in dog hair. He yelled for me and put him back in tank. He hid out a little, but then came back out in full force. He's fine today, thank goodness. I would have been horrified if we lost him that way. We redid the egg crate last night, adding an overlapping layer (credit goes to Otty).

So, Jwin is going back to the drawing board to redesign and build a new canopy ASAP!

I just took this picture of Pepper. He's doing fine after his carpet-surfing ordeal.

This is Frank, our new mystery wrasse. Not the best picture.

I'm glad your fish survived and someone was there to save him. Murphy's law did not have its way that day.

Also that second picture is very cool. Not only because of the mystery wrasse which is pretty awesome, btw. But also because there's a ton of tunicates on those rocks and they look pretty big. Very cool!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I am always amazed how they know or get lucky enough to find the smallest escape exit. He is a beautiful fish, glad it turned out alright.

WOW Can't believe I've missed this thread. Tank looks Great. Love the fact that you have been able to keep Softies, LPS and SPS all in the one system. Great Job

Thanks all! :) I just love that fish - definitely one of my favorites with lots of personality. He's still doing fine after his "near death" experience. I would have been crushed. I played "what if" all day yesterday. He was behind the tank and could have so easily been missed!

The mystery wrasse is also a favorite!

The dendro drives me crazy! I actually almost lost one of the dendro heads because of a yuma population explosion. I got rid of the infringing yumas and the dendro head is still alive. I just feed the heads when I happen to get around to it. Not that often really. The heads will stay closed for a while and then all of a sudden decide to grace me with their presence....with no rhyme or reason.

Thanks Jason - I'm constantly "redecorating" the tank - drives my son crazy! It must be a woman thing...;D
