Im new to the over flow box and sump scene....ive been on this site for about a week and have got alot of valuable information.....and one of my questions I had was about the noise the over flow box was making. like gurgling and flushing....after trial and error.and a little water on the floor lol...this has totally eliminated the noise, but not enterfered with flow-rate. I took a plant decor ( plastic fox-tail) and took every piece off its base, then re-attach only one. and connected about three, which made it about a foot and a half long. I then let it go down the standpipe. with the base hanging on the top. noise is gone...and still flows. the water level has stayed the same in the box and in the main tank....;D

I would add a ball valve to reduce the flow to stop the gurgling noise and flushing

I do have a ball valve. but the spray bar dumps 300 gph. so i need all of the flow thats going to the sump. the flow rate going out has to match the return. so I only use the ball valve for an emergency.

I think I understand....I used a piece of 3/8 od tubing and ran it down to allow the air to escape....no more noise....I used some heavy media from my outside pond and fit it inside the HOB to quiet it down even more...I just rinse the media once a week.
