Over growing corals

    I overstocked my tank with corals when i was setting it up but now my mushrooms are everywhere and doing damage also my toad stool is huge now and its having a tree affect on my zoes blocking out the light.

    what do i do now ? could i cut things back or would it kill it ?

    I know mushrooms are really hardy and they are hard to kill. You can cut (at the base) the ones you don't want off the rock and give them away or take them to the LFS or something.

    learn to frag stuff, get your self a scalpel.

    Can you frag hard corals ?

    You can frag almost any coral....with the toad you could use siccors and cut threw the flesh

    Usually, you don't use a scalpel for hard corals, but you can definitely frag them. Watch this video for quite a bit of info on the subject:

    Its Very easy to frag a Toad, just cut off the cap and recut it into the sizes u desire. BUT, do NOT try to frag it in your tank, when cut it emits fluids that can act as a toxin and harm your other critters. I suggest fragging it in a seperate tank.

    you frag hard corals by breaking them in pieces. the scalpel is for softies. The mushrooms you cut them very close at the base. Some people even cut them in half(shrooms not zoas).

    never frag softies in the tank.
