Alright, so I'm getting started on my custom sump, when I realized that I wasn't able to drill the bottom. So, I am wondering if anyone knows a good overflow and return pump, preferably quit because the tank is in my room.

Just drill the side of the tank at the bottom instead of the bottom glass. You can make some standpipe much more quiet then you can a external OF box. They are noisy due to the water falling.

    I agree with Otty.

Drilling will make life much better. I am not overly familiar with the inter standpipe but my external is pretty quiet. I do not have problems with noise ... except where the water runs into the sump and the protein skimmer. Either way i think it will be fairly quiet. The goal should be to remove the external overflow box. Drill Drill Drill...learn from me. I am stuck. Once the tank is in order...it does not matter but internal is much better. If you have a hood .... internal will muffle any noises you might hear with an external.
