So I gathered some unexpected cash and am wanting to add a sump to my system. Since it is already up and running I don't want to move everything to tubs and drill it, plus I'm not 100% sure the back isn't tempered. I am looking for reccomendations for an overflow box. I was thinking Eshopps possibly the CPR. It is for a 30L tank and am think probably a 20L sump tank. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Definitely go with the Eshopps. A PF-300 will do you good for a tank that size.

Stay away from weir style over flows like CPR. They need a pump like Tom's aqua lifter to guarantee restart after power failure and sometimes that's not enough.

The U-tube design of Eshopps over flows has never failed me in many power outages.

Eshopps is a 3Reef sponsor... you can order directly from them by finding their banner ad under the "Sponsors" link at the top of the page.

I like the eshopps the most, but when it comes to ease of use, the weir style are better. No u-tube to start a siphon with. It is a lot easier to explain to a customer how to work an aqualifter and keep it maintained than getting them to start a siphon properly. The "stick the airline to the top of the u-tube bend and suck real hard" description and showing how does not work with everyone. If you think you can handle that, go u-tube. If you can't, go weir. I like the Reef octo weirs most.

Thanks all. I am going to go with the eshopps. My LFS carrys a couple of the eshopps skimmers, but I never really looked to see if they carried overflows. I am going to stop by there tomorrow. I'm not sure what their mark up might be on it, but if they order it... no shipping charges.

I have an eshoppes sump with overflow and i could not be happier with the product. I was thinking of going with the cpr overflow to prevent accidental loss of siphoning. My only concern is the gurggling noise but I think a standpipe of some sort will fix that. Not sure why manufacturers at this day and age dont sell them either with or on the side. I do not like DIY when it comes to water related things (bad experience). They are not very expensive and quite honestly if youre going to spend near $400 on your sump set up whats another $15-$30 add on. Quiet is very important for me.
