I have been tinkering around with my overflow making a DIY durso top with two holes on the side of ell and one larger hole on top cap along with several smaller ones around it. Also placed a small vinyl airline tube through the middle top cap hole. It has somewhat gotten rid of the slurping/burping sound, but it's still their and the sump has gotten noisier. My return pump has been throttled down a bit, but still not resolution. All I should be hearing is the dripping down the overflow, without this flushing sound. Any good ideas? I am using the Aqueon Pro Flex 4 sump.

Yes, the drain pvc is submerged in a cylinder which then overflows into the sump compartments. It's the Aqueon ProFlex 4 model.
What is the best solution for this? I really need my overflow/sump to be really quiet since it's in my bedroom.

I am not familiar with the sump by brand name. But I want to help, I am rather good at quieting down a noisy sump and over flow with a few tricks. Could you post some pictures of your overflow and PVC work you have done there as well as the drains into the sump etc? If we could see what your set up looks like there is a greater chance we can help you quiet it :) Durso should really have only one or 2 small holes... Normally if you are getting slurp still it's from too much air being allowed in.

If its a flushing sound in the over flow its a venting problem. You need to get more air behind it. If you could get us a pic we might be able to help you better. But from your description, I would guess you change out the 90 on top of the standpipe with a tee and a chunck of pipe in the top. That would vent the overflow. Like I said a pic would help.

I agree a picture of your setup will help a great deal. Also keep in mind any new pipes will take some time to form a "slime coat".It will take a while for this to form in your pipes and should help quiet it down some.

Also one quick fix you can try, cut the outlet of the pipe on a 45, this reduces back pressure and may help. I'm not sure this will help, but it certainly wont hurt and is quick to try.
