Robman, no I don't think so. I did remove the ball valve and added a longer length of PVC to the sump bulkhead which helped to get the water levels pretty well stable, however, the drain is pretty violent in the 1st stage of the sump. Is that normal, it is pretty loud.

I added some pics of the the system to my albums, but not sure how to add them in the threads yet.

Your pump is most likely too large for your overflow actually. Put the ball valve on the return line.

+1.. What your going to want to do is add the ball valve after the pump so you can throttle down the pump a little. What is happening is that your overflow is struggling to keep up with the flow.

If you are hard plumbed just add the ball valve to after the pump going to the dt. I you are soft plumbed just get the futtings to add the ball valve. You never want to put the valve in front of the pump. Restricting the flow to the pump will cause damage to the pump. When installing it after all you are essentially doing is adding head pressure. Hope this helped. I have added a pic if my set up hopefully it gives you an idea. All the electrical has been changed but the plumbing is the same.

Gurgling usually means the drains not big enough for the return pump.
