I'd like to plumb a 10 gallon frag tank into my system (already have tank and light) and was looking for ideas for an overflow. I like Glass-holes but would rather build something myself.

Planning on drilling. Thinking something like pvc elbow up turned with something to keep out snails. Just looking for some ideas. Thanks.

There are alot of options. Take a look at your local fish stores tanks. A simple bulkhead with an elbow in it works. They also sell strainers to keep things out of the overflow.

But- I am a huge fan of Glass-Holes. I absolutely love my 700gph overflow kit.
