Well after an all day battle to install my sump I have two porblems. One is that no water is going to my refung side of the sump. I placed a t fitting on the main overflow pipe. I think i will just put a valve under the t so I can just make some back pressure to move into the refung tube. The other problem that I am having is that the overflow sounds like it is gulping. Under the stand in the sump a bunch of air comes out then a bunch oh water. It still moves a lot of water but its loud. Another thing that seems kinda odd to me is that I pluged in my pump with the valve on it wide open and the water levels stay the same. The overflow is rated at 600 and the pump 740.

I had the same "gulping" problem I ended up having to raise the foam pre-filter and the problem went away.

    Hello Urban,

Sounds like you are not getting a good vortex in your downflow. If you don't have foam in your overflow you chould try adding a durso standpipe. These help elevate the water level a little and force a vortex to be created in the water column. As for your 740G/Hr pump not beating your 600G/hr overflow, that is understandable. G/hr changes greatly depending on head height, tube diameter, tank back-pressure and bends in your line. For example I have a 950 G/hr pump on a 700 G/hr overflow. Because I am using a SCWD and I have a few 90 deg turns in my pvc return line, I barely have to slow the return flow. All those bends and the interference from the SCWD slows my water down a ton. Hope this helps.

Yeah!!! Durso standpipe an awesome invention...nice job in mentioning that DYNGOE
I had a similar problem with my megaflows as one side was allowing alot of water to go down at once then slowed down then did it again causing a loud noise. The culprit was the other megaflow had too much microalagae build up inside the unit itself cutting down the amount of water on that side. So I cleaned the megaflow and that eliminated the problem with the other megaflow.

I had the same problem with my megaflow when I first put it in. I just had to throttle back the valve on my return line a little bit...it took some adjustment, over a day or two, but I have a good balance now.

On both my overflow and my return I used only 1 90 on it. I have a durso standpipe in the overflow. Its gulping less not.
