The noise is from water hitting the rocks and it trickling right? Maybe add piece of foam where the water enters, should break down and slow the flow coming in

If you have a ball valve on your return pump you can adjust the flow. Mine was so loud at first until I lowered the flow to the right spot and it's nearly silent now. Of course there are other methods out there such as the gurglebuster, etc... But adjusting the flow may be easier. It was for me.

Of course that is for the "gurgling" sound if it is coming from the overflow. Wont help noise in your sump.

exactly what I did, the valve on my return has a sweet spot where the noise is very minimal, just a matter of finding it. If you don't have a valve on the return, maybe look into putting one in or getting a larger pump to dial it back, it may help.

when i listin to it it sounds like a draining noise that gets louder every little bit but it is comming from the actual hob overflow from the top before it even hits the sump does that make ne sense lol?

Yes, that is the HOB losing too much and then catching up. Like stated, play with a gate or ball valve on the return to match up the flow rates.

No to be a fly in the ointment, I do agree with the valve helping in many of these types of issues. But you say the noise comes and goes a bit – is it a gurgling noise that flushes every now and again? Could be an air bubble in the line, just something else to consider incase if it is a gurgling noise.
